From Playground to Boardroom: How Girls Can Rule in Male-Dominated Fields

My thesis is to show examples of how girls can show interest in certain activities in childhood that can reflect the often male-dominated fields they can break into as adults. I decided to frame my project as a campaign collaboration with the company Rebel Girls. As described on their website, Rebel Girls is “a global empowerment brand dedicated to raising the most inspired and confident generation of girls.” Additionally, I was influenced by the InspirinGirls Foundation, which recruits female role models to equip girls with the skills and confidence to pursue their dream careers, as inspiration.

The Process

Every good project starts with sketches. Here you can view my sketches and process work.

Refining and Finalizing Sketches

After some rough sketches, I moved on to refining my final sketches. I really wanted to create unique looks for each girl and make them all different ages. I want the situations depicted in the posters to feel real and relatable.

Color Studies

Color studies are usually done on my iPad, this is because I don’t want to waste paint while trying to decide what colors I want to use

Final Art

After I finished painting, I scanned my pieces and added the quote block on the bottom. Lastly, I created a mockup so I can see what the posters would look like hung up.
